The goal of this study was to make an Analysis on Inadequate School Facilities and their
Impact on Student Learning a Case Study Sumbawanga Municipal Council. The specific
objectives were to find out the inadequate of school physical infrastructures in the study area,
to evaluate the availability of teaching and learning materials in the study area and examine
the schools facilities on the academic performance of students in the secondary school in the
study area.
The study adapted a mixed methods research approach in which cross-section research design
is used. According to the demands of the study a population of 14,020 people were involved
from which a sample size of 384 was driven using Fisher,s formula. Data were collected
through questionnaires, interview, observation and documentary review to build up a
complete analysis of the findings.
The study revealed inadequate school facilities, teaching and learning materials and finally the
study observes negative impacts of inadequate school facilities on academic performance of
students. From these findings, it is recommended by a researcher that, the government and
other stakeholders should provide necessary supports in providing school facilities in terms of
funds, materials, work force and working facilities so as to promote conducive environment of
teaching and learning activities which will increase students’ performances in their
examinations in the area of study and the country at large.
Recommendations for further studies are given which includes evaluation of students,
performance in relation to school environment in Sumbawanga Municipal, relationship
between motivation and academic achievements, curriculum and its implementation. This is
because this study not covered each and everything, other studies are of more important.
