The purpose of this study was to assess community participation in public secondary
schools’ education development at Sengerema District in Mwanza region. Specifically,
the study explored the involvement, approaches and successes of community in
education development in which qualitative and quantitative research methods of open
ended interview and closed ended questionnaires in data collection were employed. A
sample size of 98 respondents was involved in this study. The findings showed that,
involvement of the community were active; the different approaches that were
employed by the community and schools successfully organized the community
members. Furthermore, there were successes that obtained; these include the increase of
schools, infrastructure, enrollment and academic performance, awareness in the society
and failures in the infrastructures of students with physical challenges. Based on the
findings, the study made the implication for action of different groups of major concern.
For the government; the study suggested, they should take more initiatives to involve
community and education stakeholders to inject development of education in public
secondary schools. The study for the policy marker suggested that, education policy
should be formed with consideration of culture, economy and environmental of the
communities. The study for Public secondary schools have suggested that, schools
should make sure that learning and teaching resources are available in order to create
good environment for students. The study has suggested that, the community should
contribute for public secondary schools, participation of community members in public
secondary schools help to fast the development in successful ways. |
