Workers turnover has become a serious and common problem facing most worldwide organizations and institutions, schools inclusive. Consequently, this study investigated the effects of teachers` turnover on students` academic performance between rural and urban in ward secondary schools in Nzega district. Specifically, the study sought to find out whether teachers` turnover affect students` academic performance. Two designs were applied: non-experimental and a case study research designs. Where a total sample of 348 of respondents including; students, teachers, head teachers and District Education Officer were consulted. The primary data was collected using structured questionnaires for teachers, and students as well as key informant interview guides for few teachers, head teachers and DEO. Consequently, both qualitative and quantitative data were collected. Research findings revealed that the factors causing teacher turnover are job dissatisfaction and teachers pursuing other jobs. The data shows that in particular low salaries, inadequate support from school administration, student discipline problems and lack of participation in school decision making all contribute to high rates of turnover. On other hand the study also found that teachers` turnover has not only negative impacts to students academic performance but also, it leads to the increase of the costs of recruiting, hiring, and training a replacement teacher are substantial and increase number of unqualified teachers in ward secondary schools in Nzega district. In order to reduce teachers` turnover the study recommended ; improvement living and working conditions and increase in the salary to match the increased cost of living, provision of accommodation to teachers, strengthening of supervision as well as instituting awards for good performance, among others.
