This study explored the challenges facing private secondary schools in the provision of education in Arusha City Council. The study was guided by the following objectives: identifying challenges that are facing private secondary schools in the provision of education, finding out causes of the challenges facing private secondary schools in the provision of education and, identifying possible strategies to overcome the challenges facing private secondary schools in the provision of education in Arusha City Council. This study applied descriptive survey design and a mixed research approach whereby both qualitative and quantitative data were collected. The data was collected through interview and questionnaires from 161 respondents. Accordingly, quantitative data was analyzed through the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and presented using frequency tables and cross-tabulation tables.Besides that, the qualitative data was analyzed thematically and presented in direct quotes. The study findings indicated that the quality of education offered in private school is very high due to the availability of teaching and learning resources such as textbooks, qualified teachers, classrooms, desks, and laboratories.However, many private secondary schools today have failed to provide quality education hence led them to collapse, have low enrolment ratio, frequency teacher turnover and fail to achieve their goals.All these challenges were brought by insufficient funding, poor administration, and management of the school, government policy, stiff competition from other private schools, and hiring of unqualified teachers. Finally, the study came up with the following solutions; the government should provide financial and material support to private secondary schools, formulation of good government policy on private schools and the hiring of qualified teachers.
