dc.description The study sought to assess the effectiveness of record management system in educational institutions in Tanzania – the case of Bundasecondary schools in Mara region. Teachers, SLO, DEO, and DSAO were the participants in the study. The study employed mixed research approach, specifically descriptive survey design. The study guided by Archival theory. Data were collected through Likert scale and face to face interview. Findings revealed that teachers are aware of what effectiveness of records managements is. Furthermore, it was revealed that many schools lack some facilities for effectiveness of record management. Facilities missing are like computer, image scanner, paper shredder as well as cupboard to enhance records management. Lack of recording facilities leads to negative impacts. Such as loss of records, poor decision making, poor preparation of school budget, poor student’s management, conflicts between parents and teachers especially teachers misallocate students’ reports. Suggestions of some possible ways which can be used to improve effectiveness of records management are proposed. It is concluded that the DEO needs to make sure that facilities such as computers, files, cupboards and shelves facilities are made available for effective management of records in secondary schools.
