dc.description The study examines the effects of Massification in Higher Education specifically on Infrastructure and Quality of education at St. Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT). The study employed both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The descriptive research design was used with the sample size of 200 respondents comprising of all 5 administrative staff 5 HoDs, 5 Quality assurance members, 30 academic staff, 47 hostel students‟ leaders and 108 Geography students from 3rd year. The researcher employed purposive sampling technique and stratified simple random technique in selection of the respondents. Questionnaires, interview and documentation were used to collect data. The study found out that, the university lacks some important infrastructures like; lecture rooms, staff offices, hostels, teaching and learning facilities such as; projectors, microphones, computers, current textbooks, study areas or outdoor hurts, seating facilities, low internet connectivity within a short distance coverage, Massification and poor infrastructure contribute much on the poor quality of education, because participatory teaching methods were not adopted well in the overcrowded classes and lecturer-students ratio was high, technical courses in geography and lack of some important teaching and learning materials. The study concludes that students are very destructive to university‟s furniture for they dismantle parts of the computers and electrical facilities in some blocks. It is recommended that the government should formulate good policy for education and finance universities in improving the quality of infrastructure and to enhance quality education system.
