The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of classroom learning resources on
students’ academic performance in ward secondary schools in Nyamagana schools. The
specific objectives of the study were: to evaluate how adequacy of teaching and learning
materials influence students’ learning in Ward secondary schools, to examine extent of
material resource utilization and its effect on students’ academic performance in Ward
secondary schools and to Identify how adequacy of classroom physical facilities
influence students’ academic performance in Ward secondary schools. The study
employed a descriptive research design and mixed research approach. The study adopted
both simple random sampling and purposive sampling techniques to select the sample.
The sample size was 194 respondents that included head of secondary schools, teachers
and students. Data was collected through questionnaires, which involved both closed and
open-ended items that were answered by teachers and students. The researcher
interviewed head of secondary schools from Nyamagana district. The quantitative data
was analyzed using descriptive statistics while the qualitative data was analyzed using
thematic framework. The findings revealed that ward secondary schools do not have
enough classroom resources hence, poor student’s academic performance. The findings
further indicate that teachers participate effectively in their responsibilities;students also
study hard in Nyamagana district. It is recommended that government should give
priority to ward secondary school by providing classroom resources to improve students’
academic achievements.
