dc.description This dissertation presents a study based on the effects of accessibility of secondary education on students’ performance in public secondary schools in Nyamagana District. The study intended to identify the factors of accessibility of secondary education in public secondary schools in Nyamagana District, to investigate the effect of accessibility of secondary education on students’ performance in public secondary schools in Nyamagana District, to describe challenges facing school administration in regard to accessibility and students’ performance in public secondary schools in Nyamagana District and to establish possible measures to improve students’ performance in public secondary schools in Nyamagana District. The study employed both qualitative and quantitative research approach. The study used stratified simple random sampling and purposive sampling technique to obtain samples from a population of 115 individuals comprising teachers, Heads of schools, Ward educational officers and District educational officer. Data was collected through questionnaires and interview guides. The SPSS 21st was used to compute quantitative data whereby descriptive statistics such as percentage, frequency, tables, and figure was used to analyze the data while qualitative data was analyzed by using descriptions. The findings reveal that students’ performance in public secondary schools in Nyamagana Distict has been affected by many factors caused by shortage of school infrastructures, lack of enough teaching and learning resources, lack of enough funds to finance education activities, low teachers morale toward teaching and political influence in educational matters resulted from accessibility of secondary education. Lastly, the study presents some useful and perceptive recommendations like provision of enough funds to public secondary schools to enable school instructional materials, school infrastructures and motivation for teachers to be fulfilled.
