The study was aimed at investigating “the Role of participatory decision making in primary school conflict management in Ngara district of Kagera Region. This report contains introductory chapter, review of literature, research methodology, data analysis, conclusion and recommendations. Objectives of the study were to identify how primary school conflicts are managed, to describe how primary school conflicts management affect human relation and power; to find out whether primary school stakeholders are given equal say in conflict managing decisions, and finally to assess whether participatory conflict management is being successfully used in Ngara primary schools. Qualitative approach and strategically purposive sampling technique have been applied in selecting informants with knowledge and familiarity. During data collection focused group discussion, unstructured interview and documentary review were used. The finding reveals that the strategies used in managing conflicts affected human relations. To some extent school committees and small teams were involved in conflict management decisions. The researcher suggests that, it is necessary to include conflict management courses in curriculum in all schools; there is also a need to establish disciplinary committee which deals with discipline matters, the voted school voted school committee committees should be utilized effectively in school concerns and finally there is a requisite to have specific procedures and methods in managing conflicts. |
