This study presents challenges faced by boy-child in enrollment and retention in secondary schools in Butiama District. The findings of the study is useful to policy makers, parents, curriculum developers and Ministry of education and Vocational Training to limit dropout cases and improve the enrolment rate of boy-child in Butiama District Council. The study indicated the trend of enrollment and dropout cases among Boy-child secondary schools in Butiama District. The phenomenon has negative consequences to both the individuals and the society in terms of economic, social, political and psychological dimensions. Butiama District has a high secondary school dropout cases facing boy-child compared to girls which result from school based challenges, socio-cultural and socio-economic challenges. The purpose of this study was to establish the trend of enrollment and retention of boys in secondary schools, to identify the school based challenges facing boy-child completion of secondary school in Butiama District, to determine the economic challenges facing boy-child completion of secondary school in Butiama District, to determine the socio-cultural challenges facing by boy–child in secondary schools at Butiama District, to identify the solutions to mitigate challenges facing boy-child in enrolment and retention in secondary schools at Butiama District. The sample of this study included 144 respondents, 6 headmasters/mistresses, 9 committee members, 1 DEO, 1 WEO, 27 students, 100 parents/guardians. Probability sampling technique was used to get those respondents. The instruments of data collection were; questionnaires, observation, and interview. This study revealed that in Butiama boy child enrolment was higher than girls while in secondary schools there were poor retention and dropout cases for boy-child were higher. It is very important to our children to get motivation from homes and in schools in order to get a reliable people who will benefit the whole nation. School buses, hostels and food should be provided to those who lived far away from schools to help student to reach earlier in classes and reduces tiredness among students.
