The intention of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of managerial strategies in
handling interpersonal conflict in public secondary schools in Tarime Urban. This study was
guided by three specific objectives; namely, to find out types of interpersonal conflicts in public
secondary schools in Tarime Urban, to determine challenges faced by heads of school while
handling interpersonal conflicts in public secondary schools in Tarime Urban and to examine
strategies applied by the heads of school in handling interpersonal conflict in public secondary
schools in Tarime Urban, The study used Group conflict process theory advocated by Robin
(2003). The study employed mixed research approach andconvergent parallelresearch design.
The study used a sample size of 150 respondentswho were solicited using both probability and
non-probability sampling techniques. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected through
questionnaires and interview guide. Descriptive statistics was used to analyze the quantitative
data through the help of SPSS version 20 where the data was presented through tables.
Qualitative data were recorded using field data note book and smartphone and were analyzed
using thematically. The instrument for quantitative was validated by using content validity while
split-half was 0.85.Qualitative instrument was validated using peer review while dependability
ensured the reliability for qualitative instruments.The study recommended that further studies be
conducted focusing on the private secondary schools and primary schools on the similar topic.
