dc.description The research study focused on the role of community secondary schools in promoting health literacy was conducted in Sengerema District of Mwanza region early 2014. The specific objectives of this study were; to assess the role of community secondary schools in promoting health literacy; to assess the application of health literacy in decreasing infections in the community with the help of health workers; to evaluate the response of learners and community in general towards health literacy promotion. The data were collected by using questionnaires administered to thirty secondary school teachers and ten health workers in Sengerema district specifically in Buchosa area, and semi-structured interview with thirty students and thirty parents. The findings reveal that, the majority of respondents responded that, the community secondary schools play a great role in promoting health literacy. However, the researcher recommends that it is the high time for educational stakeholders to consider the health literacy as crucial factor in all levels of educational institutions for the development of the society.
