The main objective of the study was to examine the perceptions of quality education among
teacher educators in teachers‟ colleges of Tanzania, using a case study of Mwanza city. The
study problem is that, for some years it has been observation that, perceptions of quality
education is very good, but due to the investigation conducted during research field still there
are challenges which facing the provision of quality education in Tanzania as it has been
observed in most colleges in Mwanza city.
The study employed a qualitative approach with some elements of quantitative data collection
methods. The population for the study was four private and government teacher training
colleges which are found in Mwanza City with a population of 147 respondents. The target
population was 107 respondents. Case study design was used for the study. Purposive and
simple random sampling was used.
The findings showed that there a lot of challenges that affected the provision of quality
education. The working and living condition was not good where many teacher educators
failure to provide quality education also teachers educators were not motivated both
intrinsically and extrinsically.
The conclusion of the study is that, government through MoEVT should assist the provision
of quality education in teacher training colleges by providing teaching and learning materials
and resources while teacher educators have the role of teaching and counselling student
teachers. There is need for MoEVT in cooperation with teachers to plan for new strategies
which will ensure quality education is provided in TCs.
