dc.description This research was conducted with the aim of investigating the roles of Quality assurance officers in supervision of secondary schools in Magu District. This study was conducted due to the poor standard of public secondary schools. The study was based on Path Goal Theory which was developed in 1971 by Robert J. House where leaders are required to give direction to their subordinate in order to achieve the organizational goal. This study applied embedded design. Sampling technique were simple random sampling and purposive sampling where 79 teachers were selected randomly, 6 heads of schools and 3 SQAO selected purposively. The instruments used in collecting data were Questionnaire, interviews and documentary review. The validity of the instrument was conducted by consulting the supervisor and the reliability was tested during pilot study. Quantitative data was analyzed by using SPSS programme and presented in table and figure which show frequency and percentage of the result. Qualitative data was analyzed thematically where the data with the same theme were presented together. The results of this study show that the role of SQAO in supervision of secondary school was well known by the teachers but some of them were inadequate in performance. The perception of the teacher toward SQAO is positive which is different with what it was in the past. The study also revealed that SQAO are facing a lot of challenges which make the supervision to be inadequate. Also the study came up with the solutions to the challenges. The study recommends decentralizing the division up to the district level, to employ qualified personnel, to provide enough funds and to improve the technique of supervision. The study concludes that the role of SQAO is important in school development, the teachers’ have a positive perception and the SQAO face the challenge which hinder to carry out their duty.
