The study owed to examine the relationship between continuous assessment and final
examinational results of secondary school students. The problem arise due to the tendency
of decreasing percentage of academic result (students performance) in secondary schools
specially in Magu district regardless of different kinds of assessment which has been
conducted to learners aiming at preparing students to sit for final examination. Three
objectives used guided the study namely; to assess the procedures employed in
administering continuous assessment in Magu district; to examine the procedures employed
in administering final examination in secondary schools in Magu district; and to relate
students continuous assessments and final examinations results in Magu district. The
improvement theory (Kaizen) used to lead that study where empirically revealed that there
is high link and correlation between CA and summative evaluation.
The quantitative approach adopted in this study where survey design employed to collect
information under questionnaire and documentary review adopted as research tools. 108
respondents selected as sample through quota and purpose sampling techniques.
The findings revealed that there is high link and correlation between continuous assessment
and final examination results but continuous assessment to be successful enough needs the
serious observations of national examination standards as provided by National
Examinational council of Tanzania (NECTA). The procedure employed in administering
both continuous assessment and summative evaluation find to be same to large extent but
differ in terms of rules and guidelines observations during the process the case made
teachers to complain on the process and procedure adopt by education managers and
supervisors. It recommended by the study that there is a need of adhere the national
standards by all education stakeholders who deals with students assessments and
evaluations. |
