dc.description This research investigated the influence of working conditions on teachers‟ performance in public secondary schools at Butiama District, Tanzania. The research was conducted at Butiama District as a case study in Mara region, Tanzania. The study employed mixed research approaches. This study was guided by the specific objectives which were; to find out existing teachers‟ working conditions in public secondary schools, to find out the influence of teachers‟ working conditions on job performance in public secondary school, to suggest the way forward on the working conditions in relation to job performance. Descriptive research design was used to collect data from the selected population in which both quantitative and qualitative data collection approaches were employed. A total of 79 respondents participated on the study. Questionnaires were used to collect data from teachers and interview guides were used to collect data from Head of Schools (HOS). The study found out that, working conditions in most of the schools at Butiama district were very poor, furthermore, working condition such as in service training for the teachers improve awareness in the field, good salary and provision of accommodation together with safety and security improve teachers morale and commitment on their job. Also to maintain working conditions, government should increase salaries for the teachers, provision of accommodation, ensure safety and security for the teachers, provision of in-service training every after a certain period of time, also to hire more teachers so as to maintain teacher-student ratio as well as to reduce workloads for the teachers. The study recommended that, there should be in service training for teachers and teachers‟ salary and promotion should be given as provided on the guidelines.
