dc.description Dissertation (MA Public Administration)
dc.description Student affairs and services management in higher learning institutions is concerned with assisting students socially, physically and psychologically to attain their higher educational aspirations. This study aimed at evaluating the student affairs and services management in some selected higher learning institutions in Tanzania. The focus was on the presence of professional personnel in terms of qualification, student affairs and services management facilities, identification of contextual constraints which hinder the provision of student affairs and services management and the student-to-professional personnel ratio. The study was conducted in some selected higher learning institutions located in Dodoma Municipality, namely, the University of Dodoma, College of business education, Institute of rural development planning and Saint John university of Tanzania. Survey design was employed, where 144 respondents were selected through stratified sampling techniques. Out of these 126 were students, four Dean of Students, seven Wardens and seven Janitors. The information for research was gathered using questionnaires, documentary review, check list and structured interview guide. Briefly, the respondents expressed their dissatisfaction with the student affairs and services cadre, especially in the area of information resources which could help students to find the services. On their part, the student affairs managers lamented that they are being used to protect the university management, not students. This situation needs immediate attention to help students manage their studies and reduce the student unrest in higher learning institutions as they will have the necessary information to deal with their problems. Overall, the study shows that little efforts have been done to improve the student affairs and service management.
