dc.description Dissertation (MA Public Administration)
dc.description This study has examined the interface between increased number of public secondary schools and educational development in Manyoni district. It has examined the contribution or impacts of the rapid increase of public secondary schools on education development in Manyoni district. It has assessed the educational status in Manyoni district and examined the measures which could be taken to improve the educational status and to ensure that the services given meet the needs and expectations of the people. The study has adopted a non - experimental design and employed both purposive and probability sampling in selecting the sample size. A cross-sectional survey that consists of asking questions to the respondents from a sample population, at a single point in time was used. Questionnaire and interview as tools were employed to collect data (primary and Secondary) from education official, teachers, students and also from the people in Manyoni district (Residents). The study revealed that the increase of public secondary schools has created greater chances for students to join secondary schools, but there is poor performance in examinations, high rate of students drop out and poor facilities for provision of education in schools. In order to improve the education status in Tanzania the study recommends that the government should solve the challenges like stabilizing education policy to fit the current situation, increase budget of education sector in order to improve the facilities, motivation of the teachers through good salaries, allowances and housing, create a good learning environment which in turn will improve performance and reduce students drop out.
