The main purpose of this study was to examine effectiveness of Save Our Souls (SOS) Children's Village in promoting welfare of the children, a case study of Ungujai-Zanzibar. The specific objectives used to guide this study were namely; to find out the roles of the village in promoting welfare of the children, to identify challenges facing the village in promoting welfare of the children and suggest measures that will help alleviation of the challenges. In conducting this study, the techniques of data collections were questionnaire to staff and management respondents and interview to the children, which make a total of 54 respondents. This study was conducted by a case study with mixed approach. The findings of the study revealed that, SOS Children's Village Unguja is effective in promoting welfare of the children who are cared in this village. The village has main role of bringing up care and services to the children who were under most vulnerable condition to promote their social welfare. Furthermore, the village is challenged by the hereditary psychological problem that existed to some children, this hinders the efforts of the village in its mission of bringing social welfare to the children. At the end the researcher recommended that, increasing of counseling services and psychosocial support to the children will helps in alleviation of the existing challenges. In the light of the study discovery, the research recommends that the village should introduce effective study based on inherited psychological problems that affect the children and ways to its alleviation. This will promote more welfare of the children. |
