Community livelihoods depend on many sectors, one of them is fishing through community subgroups. The aim of this study is to examine the assessment community subgroups, for fishing in the peoples livelihoods in Pangani district. In order to achieve this there are specific objectives which are being undertaken as follows First to examine the contribution of fishing groups to people’s livelihoods in Pangani. Secondly, is to find out problems facing community subgroups for fishing and finally to investigate strategies for addressing problems facing community subgroups for fishing. Under these specific objectives research questions are set so as to get the information required. More on that different issues relating to issues of livelihoods and fishing are being discussed, so as to give a theoretical and operational meaning. The study used research methodology where cross sectional design was employed. From not less than 100 sample data collection methods was questionnaire, interview and observation. Data analysis was done by using SPSS. Methods used for data collection involved questionnaire, interview and observation. Data were collected and analyzed using qualitative approach and qualitative methods supplemented. The researcher expected to examine contribution of fishing community subgroups to people’s livelihoods and measures needed to be taken by government, Non Governmental Organizations and the local society, in strengthening their partnership and cooperation in order to improve local people livelihoods. The joint venture of all stakeholders will result to sustainable and improved livelihoods. |
