dc.description The study investigates the factors influencing motivation of teachers in secondary schools in Dodoma Municipal. The study sought to examine the extent of motivation, factors influencing motivation of teachers, and measures that need to be taken to improve motivation of teachers. The study employed a sample of 50 respondents including teachers, head teachers, community members and Dodoma Municipal Education officer. The primary data were used through questionnaires and face to face interview, and Secondary data were used. Quantitative data also were used by using SPSS version 16.0 while qualitative data were analyzed through explanation. The research findings indicate that despite all negatively in motivation factors, but teachers still perform well in their works in schools and the morale was increasing. The factors for low motivation includes; low salaries, poor working conditions, inadequate houses, poor health services, no respect of teachers, none payment and other benefits, poor school management, none transport, rewards and bonuses and promotions, as well as a low community participation. Measures to improve motivation of teachers that were agreed by most respondents includes; to increase salaries, to listen ideas of teachers, an improvement of working conditions, providing computers to teachers, and effective teaching facilities, provisions of loans, an improvement of payments and benefits, and an increase of cooperation between teachers and community. The study recommends that the government, nongovernment organization and stakeholders should work out to improve the salaries of teachers, teachers need to be provided houses, awards and bonuses, there should be seminars and workshops, provisions of loans, computers, training and working conditions need to be improved.
