The study has aimed at assessing the local government administration and community
participation in development projects. This research was been guided with three specific
objectives these were; to evaluate levels of the community participation on development
projects through their local authority, to asses approaches used by local Authority in
involving the communities in development projects and to find out challenges facing local
authorities in the implementation of development projects. A total of 94 respondents from
Dodoma Municipal officers Ward and village leaders and the community were involved in
this research. Purposefully sampling was been used to collect data from key informants
who were the leaders. Data was been code and analyzed by the use of SPSS while tables
was been used to present data, public projects was been implement through both bottom
up approach the community were involved public hearing in decision making on priority
settings .Based on these findings, the participation of local communities in development
projects in Ng‘ong‘hohna ward was generally limited to poor contribution and poor
attendance of the community in the public hearing and the public meetings. The
researcher has recommended that, the government should emphasize on civic education
and emphasize the community patriotism to undertake their development. Leadership
skills in terms of management should also be empowered to the leaders in undertaking
developments particularly to the development projects at the local levels.
