dc.description This study aimed at assessing the contribution of employee training to performance of local government authorities in Tanzania using Shinyanga municipal council as a case study. A mixed method design was used. Questionnaires and interviews were used for data collection in which seventy- four (74) questionnaires were distributed to respondents. The findings of the study show that the majority of the respondents understand the importance of training in their work performance. The workers of the Local government authorities have undergone training since joining the authority. In selecting who goes for training the study found that it was compulsory for all workers to attend training. However there is a problem of when the training is to be done as it depends on the funds available at the local government authorities this is one of the challenges faced by the local government authorities when planning trainings activities for its employees. The Local Government Authority did not monitor and evaluate their training activities. The study thus recommends the Local Government Authorities to have plans and strategies for training employees which they will be able to implement even when funds are low.
