The study was about the effect of financial rewards on employees job commitment in public sector. The main objectives of the study were to examine the effect of financial rewards on employees job commitment among Dodoma Municipal Council employees. It intended to attain the following research objectives:- finding out the effect of financial
rewards on job commitment of employees in Dodoma Municipal, examining the challenges facing the efforts towards provision of financial rewards to employees in Dodoma Municipal Council and identifying efforts made by Municipal Council in curbing the existing challenges. The study is guided by Hierarchy of Needs Theory. Cole (1997) emphasizes that provision of stable monetary rewards contribute to employee
commitment, high job performance and stability on the job. The study has used a cross-section survey design and the study was entirely quantitative. Data were collected by using interviews, questionnaire survey and documentary review. Respondents were divided into two categories namely subordinate employee and Heads of Department. One of the mentioned effects of financial rewards on job commitment of employees in LGAs was improvement of work performance which was mentioned by 39.2% of total of subordinate employee category of respondents while Heads of Department category of respondents mentioned this effect by 42.1%. This study concludes that it is very important for employees in a particular organization to get incentives such as financial rewards which could lead to job commitment. It has been recommended that the government should make sure that financial rewards are strengthened to bring about job commitment of employees in public sector.
