dc.description Dissertation (MA Public Administration)
dc.description The study assessed the interface between water scarcity and poor performance for Secondary schools. It took Rombo as a case study, and it based on the following specific objectives: Examine the extent of demand and supply of water in the secondary schools, to assess the effectiveness of water management for distribution and uses in the secondary schools, to investigate the impact or effect of water scarcity on student performance in Secondary Schools and to design strategies (measure) of water supply to enhance student’s performance in Secondary Schools. The study has involved 100 respondents this including four school heads, twenty teachers and 76 secondary school students. Tools used to collect data were documentary review and questionnaires. The data were analyzed by using Statistical Package for Social Science Research (SPPS) version 16. The study reveals that there is a significant relationship or interface between water scarcity and poor performance for secondary schools. According to this analysis’s most of ward schools are not furnished with enough facilities and hence the quality of education which is produced there is not of a good standard. This can be compared to other schools especially private schools which had enough leaning facilities which facilitate the teaching and learning process. Apart from that there is an issue of teaching staffs not satisfied with their pay hence boycotting classes and sometimes teaching without motivation. All these contributes a lot in the poor performance leaving along the issue of water scarcity, environmental factors and other related reasons, like inadequate teaching and learning materials, this included things like equipped library mostly the library and e-library where by the students will be able to access the materials online. For these reason the researcher recommends that the government through the Ministry of water should support water resources to help schools to become more sustainable in the management of water. When addressing water, schools should be given Water Best Practice Guide. This guide provides step-by-step instructions and recommendations to help schools reduce water consumption and develop a Water Action Plan. Apart from that there should be a plan to make sure that all new schools have a tap and well and there must be a system for taping rain water and a well special for it. Moreover, students are taught on how to manage water at home and School as well. Likewise the stakeholders should be after efficiency and water quality workshops for teachers and eventually schools should receive water accreditation after implementing the certain conditions which will be laid down, adopting sustainable water management strategies, reducing water consumption and showing a commitment to maintaining water quality.
