Abstract

Description

Dissertation (MA Public Administration)
This study was conducted in Dodoma Municipal office with the purpose of assessing strategies used to fight against HIV/AIDS at work places. Specific objectives were to assess the strategies which were used by the Dodoma Municipal in fighting against HIV/AIDS, assess the attitudes and responses of workers on using HIV/AIDS strategy, to study the problems/challenges which are faced by Dodoma Municipal in fighting against HIV/AIDS. Most of the literature review focused on behavior change and increase awareness as the major solution to the spread of HIV/AIDS. The sample sizes of 88 respondents were employed in this study to fulfill the required respondents. Data collection method comprises questionnaire, interview and documentary sources. The researcher used simple random sampling and judgmental sampling design to obtain sample size. The study has found out that majority of respondents (65%) do not know the HIV/AIDS prevention strategies, which specifically were established by the Dodoma Municipal to its employees, although 35% of respondents were aware on the prevention strategies which were originally established by the Dodoma Municipal, however lack of funds and insufficient knowledge were the major challenges which face Dodoma Municipal in prevention of HIV/AIDS at working place. Due to the above finding it is concluded that awareness is the most important part in prevention of HIV/AIDS and employees should not base on ABC strategy only. The study therefore recommended that the Management in Dodoma Municipal council has to collaborate with other stakeholders in prevention of HIV/AIDS at working place; also Municipal should establish HIV/AIDS prevention strategies, to its employees and ensure that they were distributed to all departments.
