This study assessed the role of TASAF project in reducing rural poverty in Tanzania through social service delivery. The study is built up with four themes, namely “the adequacy of social service delivery facilities, the level of accessing the basic social services, challenges facing TASAF project in improving social services, and different measures to improve the contribution of TASAF project in improving social services delivery in rural areas of Tanzania. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected from 72 participants who participated through interviews and a survey questionnaire. The quantitative data were analysed quantitatively with the help of SPSS, version 25 while the qualitative dada were analysed thematically followed by thick descriptions. The analysis revealed that there is moderate adequacy of social services delivery and moderate access level to social services among community members. The challenges facing TASAF project were pointed out to be insufficient monitoring and evaluation of TASAF projects, low investment in income-generating projects, insufficient community participation, corruption, low self-employment among TASAF beneficiaries, low entrepreneurial skills among TASAF beneficiaries, poor timing of fund disbursement, and low transparency on TASAF project in reducing rural poverty. The proposed solution to improve TASAF project is to address these challenges. The researcher recommends that the Government and all stakeholders of TASAF project to review the project and make some reforms to strengthen the project. There is a need to focus on income-generating projects which are more sustainable than direct fund disbursement to TASAF beneficiaries with little entrepreneurial skills. |
