dc.description The English language has always been a concern of the educational system worldwide, Today, English is not just a compulsory subject or a medium of instruction, it is a must for most jobs in many countries. The study focused on The Challenges of Using English Language in Tanzanian Colleges: A Case of College of Business Education, Dodoma Campus. The study employed cross-sectional survey research designs in which one hundred (100) students and twenty (20) instructors (n=120) from the College of Business Education, Dodoma Campus were surveyed using a questionnaire. Also Focus Group Discussion and observation data collection techniques were used for qualitative data. Proportionate stratified and purposive sampling techniques were used in the collection of primary data. Content analysis was employed for qualitative data analysis while descriptive statistics for quantitative data. The findings show that poor guidance and emphasis of instructors to students on the use of (EL), poor students’ background on EL usage, ECLs and the Kiswahili language, fear of students to speak EL during learning, lack of management emphasis on EL usage and lack of motivation to students and instructors who use EL are the challenges of using EL in Tanzanian colleges. The study concludes that Tanzanian colleges do not use EL effectively but rather use the mixture of EL and the Kiswahili language. The study recommends that serious efforts should be made by the Government and college management to address the challenges of using EL. Such efforts should include training instructors on EL usage, strict policies and regulations like 'No EL No Service' and motivating EL users.
