dc.description This study aimed at investigating the impact of training and development on employee work performance in public organizations in Nyamagana district and finds out factors that affect training and development on employee work performance in government organizations and suggests some measures which add value to the training and development programs. The study used a non experimental cross section design that allowed the uses of questionnaires and interview in which sample size of 96 respondents was used. It selected these respondents by using probability sampling technique in which simple random sampling to obtain public organization employees. Under non probability sampling, purposeful sampling was applied to obtain key informants. The findings revealed that training and development of public organization employees helped to improve public organizations employees in work performance such as increasing productivity, Quality of work through knowledge and skills from training and development which enhance work performance. Besides, training and development of employee s on work performance in public organization is affected by shortage of funds which delay training and development. Also, poor management in public sector affects training and development and nepotism in training chance which increase delay of training and development. Thus provision of short term training and sponsorship in training and development of employees are measures for increasing work performance. Thus the government must emphasize on- job training for work productivity and quality that enhance work performance. Policy makers make policy that will be committed to training and development and public organization keen on the short terms training for enhancement of work performance and a longitudinal study should be adopted. This may provide deeper insight into the relationship between training and development in work performance among public organizations.
