dc.description This study aimed at analyzing factors that influence early marriages among Barbaig communities in Hanang District. Specifically, the study sought to provide an overview of the magnitude of the problem of early marriage, identify factors contributing to early marriages, determine the role of parenting in the problem of early marriage and identify possible factors that may contribute to reduction of early marriages among Barbaig communities in Hanang District. Simple random and purposive sampling methods were used to select respondents. Data was collected through questionnaire, interviews, direct field observations and focus group discussions. The analysis of data was done through the use of Statistical Package for Social Science. Findings of this study revealed that the current situation of early marriage has decreased in the study area and different factors have been identified which lead to the decline of early marriage. Some of the reasons which have contributed to the decrease of early marriage are related to cultural and traditions, economic, social, religious factors and the roles of parents and different institutions. Different measures to reduce early marriage among Barbaig communities, especially through providing education, campaigns and establishment of different laws and by-laws and building of school. The study recommends that there should be initiatives designed specifically to reduce early marriage; working with women‟s associations, improve performance of the office of women‟s affairs, strengthen community organizations in the study area, support work done by religious and community leaders, influencing community members and build more schools.
