This study investigated the factors which contribute to economic poverty among women in Nyamagana district, a case study of Butimba ward.The specific objectives were (i)to find out social factors which contribute to women’s poverty in Butimba ward(ii) to find out economic factors which can cause women to be poor in Butimba ward(iii) to find out administrative factors which can cause women to be poor in Butimba ward.The study used a descriptive survey design. The study sample was 93 of households.Probability sampling technique was used to select respondents for sample, using simple random sampling. The data were collected using questionnaires, and in–depth interview and analyzed to get descriptive statistics qualitative information. The findings on causes of women poverty weregender inequality in decision making in householdand inequality at working place. Other findingsare lack of education to undertake production activities, take care of their health and properly engage in economic activities. The study found that lack of control over resources on the grounds of cultural norms and practices discriminate women. The study recommends that the government should properly reinforce laws which give women the right to own property. The government should take action against violations women’srights so that the society can learn to value women’s rights, so that, women can have right to own property and abolish cultural practices that discriminate or create gender inequality in the United Republic of Tanzania Constitution. The study found that women poverty affect man power and delay social development. It is therefore recommended that the government reinforces laws that combat all factors which adversely affect women.
