The purpose of this study was to investigate he impact of welfare programmes/benefits on employees’ performance in the public sector with reference to Ludewa District Council. The specific objectives of the study were to identify types of welfare programmes are given to employees at Ludewa District Council, to determine how welfare programmes/benefits contribute to employees’ performance at Ludewa District Council and to examine challenges facing Ludewa District Council in ensuring availability of welfare programmes employees. 47 respondents were selected through simple random sampling and purposive sampling procedures. The study used a case study research design where primary and secondary data were used as a source of information. Quantitative data were analysed using descriptive statistics with the aid of SPSS and Ms-Excel and qualitative data were analysed using content analysis. Study results show that there are various types of welfare benefits available at Ludewa District Council. These benefits are workers compensation program, safety and health benefits/program, salary increment, job security promotion, transport allowance, house allowance, education promotion, funeral services and lunch. The study further found that welfare programs/benefits have significant contributions to employees’ performance. These include welfare benefits to increase employees’ work morale, increase employees’ work commitment, increase employees’ work efficiency and enhance the performance of duties at LDC. However, financial challenges, welfare benefits are not provided consistently, welfare benefits are not provided equally to LDC staffs and time delay to get welfare benefits were among the challenges faced by LDC in ensuring the availability of welfare benefits to employees. It is therefore concluded that, there is no doubt that welfare benefits have a significant impact on employees’ performance at Ludewa District Council. The study recommends that the government should ensure that, it allocates adequate funds in order to enhance the provision of welfare benefits. This will reduce complains from the employees and increase the work efficiency
