Themainpurposeofthisstudywastoassessthefactorsinfluencingeffectiveness ofinventorycontrolinpublicsector,acasestudyatTanzaniaPostalBank(TPB) headquarters. Thespecificobjectivesweretoexaminetheinfluenceofprocurementprocedures oncontrolofinventory,todeterminetheinfluenceofstaffknowledgeandskillson controlofinventory,and to assess the influence ofstores records and documentationoncontrolofinventory. Thisstudycombinedtheuseofdifferentdatawhichwereprimarydataand secondary,the66respondentswererequestedtocompletethequestionnaire.The secondary data and documentary review include the review of various documentedrecordsoftheorganization concerninginventorysuchaslocal purchaseorder,deliverynote,bincardsandthedispatchbooks.Theresearcher adoptedadescriptiveresearchdesignwerethedatapresentedandanalyzedby usingquantitativemethods.The findingsrevealed that,StaffKnowledge and skills,DocumentationandProcurementprocedureshaveadirectinfluence ineffectivenessofinventorycontrol.This is showninthestudysincemorethan90% ofrespondentsinall factorsagreewiththecontributionofthefactorsinthisstudyandtheirrelated attributes. Furthermore,theresearchsuggeststhatforinventorycontroltobeeffective; furtherprovisionoftrainingstoTPBemployeesshouldbemadesoastoenable themtogetfamiliarandadoptthemoresophisticatedmeansofinventorycontrol likethebarcodesystemsinceitsavestimethroughreductionofpaperworks,and helptotrackinventory.Moreover,theresearchsuggeststhatfurtherstudyshouldfocusonotherareasofinventoryproceduresandtechniquesthatmayinfluenceinventorycontrolinan organization.
