dc.descriptionThis study aimed to assess the urban growth and environmental solid waste management in Dodoma Municipality. From the data given by National Bureau of Statistics shows that Dodoma Municipal is growing faster. For the purpose of obtaining sufficient data the specific objectives and research questions included: factors responsible for the urban growth and source of solid waste disposal in different parts of Dodoma Municipality, the trend of environmental waste management condition in Dodoma Municipality, the current effects of urban growth on environmental management in Dodoma Municipality, and the efforts undertaken by Municipal Authority to provide adequate environmental solid waste management in Dodoma Municipality. The study used cross-sectional survey design and obtained data through questionnaire, interview and group discussion from the randomly sampling selected sample for the study in six wards selected for the study in Dodoma Municipality. Qualitative data was analysed through analysis methods content and structured functional analysis was used to analyse qualitative data and information while the quantitative data collected through structural and semi structured questionnaires were analysed using statistical package for social science (SPSS) to obtain descriptive statistics such as percentage of the respondents, frequencies and mean. From the findings there were many factors including, migration of people of both rural urban migration and migration from other towns to Dodoma Municipality, Socioeconomic activities, natural increase as the causes of urban growth while the Households residents and the street vendors were the source of solid waste disposal in Dodoma Municipality. The efforts taken to solid waste management include education and awareness creation to citizen, collection of waste and allocation of specific dumping areas.
