An Assessment on the Factors Hindering Male Involvement in Maternal Health Care.

The research work focused on assessing factors that hindering male involvement in maternal
health care, a case of Luchelele Ward in Nyamagana district.
The general objective of this research is toexamine the factors hindering male involvement
in maternal health care; A Case of Luchelele Ward, Mwanza. And specific objectives are to
determine what societies perceive to be effective ways of promoting male involvement in
maternal health care at Luchelele Ward, to examine the factors that limit male involvement
in maternal health care despite the established laws and systems that require their
involvement and to explore means preferred by men that may ensures their involvement in
the maternal health care at Luchelele Ward.
In conducting this research the Social cognitive theory which developed by Albert Bandura
used as the framework of this study. It is quantitative study whereby it involve case study
design. The methodology that study use is descriptive research, where by questionnaire and
interview guide are tools which used to collect the required data. The study also use
systematic random sampling to select men and women from the households while purposive
sampling used to select healthcare workers.
The findings shows that educational and influential seminars should be used to promote the
importance of male involvement, also negative perceptions towards male involvement affect
male involvement in maternal health.
The researcher recommends that the government should establish laws on recommending
men to involve in maternal health care, policies which will guide society to share and
participate in maternal health as their responsibility and it should not recognized as women
responsibility.
