The paper examines the profit efficiency of banks in Tanzania for the period of 2006–2011 using the Cobb-Douglas and translog estimates. The findings have found the banks to perform at higher level of profit inefficiency despite the higher degree of profit level. The regulatory authorities should increase and tighten the regulation procedures for the banks to operate at higher level of profit efficiency
