This study investigated the relationship between parents’ socio-economic status and child labour practices in Micheweni District Zanzibar. The main objective of this study was to establish relationship between parent’s socio-economic status and child labour practices in Micheweni District, Zanzibar. The study employed survey method to gather data from 363 respondents which include parents and children. Frequency and percentage counts, means, Pearson Product Moment correlation and regression analysis were used for data analyses. The outcome of the study showed that a significant relationship exists between parents’ socio-economic status and child labour practices. This study concludes by asserting that poverty is a major cause of child labour, abuse and neglect in Zanzibar. Therefore, the clarion call is directed at the government to intensify efforts on revalidating Universal Basic Education in a manner that will enable children of low income parents have access to formal education at a critical formative stage of education delivery. This should come with full cost sharing-free both at the primary and secondary school levels. The economic situation of the country also needs to be revamped so as to enhance the standard of living of the citizenry and a law should be enacted mandating all school age children not to be found hawking during school hours. Also the Government should, as a matter of urgency, ensure that the child rights law is made operational and effective in all parts of the country, while attempts should be made to redistribute the national wealth such that a greater percentage is directed at taking care of citizen’s welfare. Governmental and non–governmental organizations should also endeavor to create care centers for the children of the destitute and the less privileged. Finally government and corporate bodies should create more jobs which will alleviate poverty.
