The major objective of this study was to determine the socio-economic impact of
NSSF to retirees, taking Bagamoyo rural civil retirees as a case study. This study
adopted cross-sectional study design. This type of design was convenient due to the
factor that, it provided an opportunity for the researcher to have full analysis of
different situations and their interrelationships. The design was selected study in
order to enable researcher to get in-depth information about the research subject
through careful analysis of facts.
Respondents were obtained through purposive sampling method since the research
demanded NSSF members as the major respondents, so 70 respondents were selected
to represent the entire population. Data were collected using structured questionnaire
whereby information were analysed using Statistical Package for Social Science
(SPSS) and presented in different forms like bar charts, percentage, frequencies, pie
chart, histograms, and tables according to the type of information presented.
According to the study findings, it was noted that NSSF had a significant
contribution to the livelihood of the retired employees as they were able to get
income as if they were still under terms of employment. According to the
information obtained from respondents, it was observed that, a great difference that
existed amongst members of NSSF and those not enrolled with NSSF as it was
determined that the level of poverty was low to members of NSSF different to those
not in NSSF through evaluation of availability of assets, number of meals per day
and value of clothes.
The research concluded that, retired workers were benefiting from NSSF and that
NSSF had enabled even those non-members to benefit through members. It was
recommended that the government should ensure NSSF is fully supported so as it can
enrol more members unlike the current situation. |
