The study aimed at assessing the Government Role in Curbing Manufacturing Sub- Standard Products in Tanzania using a case of Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS). Sixty respondents participated after being purposively and randomly sampled.
The general objective of the study was to investigate the Government’s Role in Curbing Manufacturing of Sub-Standard Products in Tanzania. Specific objectives of the study were to provide an overview of the effectiveness of government for curbing manufacturing sub-standard products in the industry and commerce, to find out the limitations that face the government for curbing manufacturing of sub-standard products in Tanzania, to examine the magnitude of sub-standard in community and to investigate some measures taken for curbing the supply of those sub-standard products. The case study design was used and data collection methods also used included interviews, questionnaires and documentary analysis. Collected data were analyzed by using SPSS package and presented based on research objectives. The study found out that, although there is an improvement in service delivery for Tanzania standard bodies, there are however some problems which those standard bodies like (TBS) face.
The main problems which were identified were lack of experienced manpower at operational and managerial level, the use of local and absolute equipments, low operations budgets and lack of office premises at various borders for inspection. These are serious challenges – not only for TBS but also other standard bodies.
Based on these findings, the study addressed those challenges as strong indicators and come up with recommendation and solution to overcome including establishing mutual collaboration with other institutions of the same nature in the country. |
