The main objective of the research study was to explore the role of CRDB Bank in fighting against poverty in Tanzania. But the main focus was on how Loans offered by the CRDB Bank has assisted SMEs to get economic development out of the vicious circle of poverty. Also the study analyzed the problems faced by CRDB Bank customers particularly SMEs in fighting against poverty in Tanzania.
Lastly the study proposed recommendation for improving the CRDB Bank and poverty
alleviation in Tanzania. This study was conducted mainly in Moshi. The Data was collected using structured questionnaires, interview and observations. The respondents were customers and Management of CRDB Bank. The results of the analysis revealed that 95% of the CRDB Bank customers in Moshi agreed that the CRDB Bank and other commercial
Banks assist to reduce poverty in Tanzania. It was also established that of all CRDB Bank customers, only 22% had access to other commercial Bank loan, while 77.5% obtained loan from CRDB Bank only.
It was concluded that the Credit System is a hindrance to the development and progress of the CRDB Bank. It was claimed by the customers that the CRDB Banks System set high interest rates, collaterals for loan, repayments period, lack of training and seminars were contributing factors which hindered the development of CRDB Bank programs.
Finally the study recommends that the CRDB Banks lending system should be reviewed, so that even the poor people can manage to obtain loans from those Banks. Also all Commercial Bank specifically CRDB Bank should provide training through seminars to the customers because most of poor people don’t know how to use commercial banks due to their low level of primary school education.
