dc.description This study on factors constraining child protection in Tanzania was conducted in Dar es Salaam. The objectives of the study were to identify potential risk facing children in Tanzania; to examine factors impede child protection in Tanzania and to identify strategies that can prevent and protect children from violence. A sample of 60 respondents was used; purposive sampling was used to select the respondents for the study. Primary data were collected though questionnaire and indepth interview. The study found among others that health risk was a major potential risk facing children. Street children are exposed to a wide range of risks affecting their physical and psychological health and personal safety. Also, the study found limited fund was a major factor impeding children protection in Tanzania. Additionally, the findings showed that there is a need to incorporate child protection into national and decentralized planning processes, including social protection strategies. The study concluded that, street children are facing many risks, including health risk; sexual abuse and doing manual work during nights. Also, the study found that there were several factors that hindered child protection in Tanzania. These included limited fund and inadequate policy. The study recommended among others that, Tanzanian NGOs should work in the best interests of the child and ensure that all the works undertaken and decisions made are of the paramount importance to the child.
