This study assessed Career Development of Women in Hospitality Industry Insight
from Double Tree Hilton Hotel Tanzania. The Main objective of the study was to
determine career development of women in hospitality industry.
The Data collection methods comprised questionnaire, interview and documentary
review. Statistical package for social sciences was employed in data analysis. A
descriptive cross-sectional study was used. A sample of 45 women (respondents)
was used. Simple random sampling was used to select respondents from their
homesteads.
In recent years, the increased number of women in the hospitality industry and their
under representation in top management positions has made women’s status in the
industry a great concern. The purpose of the study was to examine factors that
facilitate and constrain women’s career development and determine if there were
any significant differences among them. The study went further to identify recruiters
think programs should do to better prepare women for leadership positions and ways
to help reduce the barriers that may exist to women’s career advancement.
The findings revealed that on job factors and gender issues hinder the career
development of women in Hospitality industry. It was concluded that despite the
major advancement of women have made in becoming a significant part of work
force in Hospitality industry, they were still facing career development issues.
It was recommended that more progressive organization offer flexible work
schedules to help accommodate the needs of working women who struggle to
balance their careers with family responsibilities. They offer mentoring programs
designed to increase career development for women and may have affirmative
action policies aimed at eliminating gender discrimination .They offer training on
site during the workday to accommodate all women. |
