This study attempts to assess the effectiveness of on the job training on employee
performance in Tanzania Public Institutions. The research was done specifically at
Tanzania Food and Drugs Authority – Dar es Salaam. A study sample consisted of
106 employees.
The main purpose of the study was to assess the effectiveness of on the job training
on employee performance in Tanzania Public Institutions. This was achieved by
studying the way on the job training programmes were conduced and how it
contributed to the employee performance at TFDA. Specific objectives were
therefore; first to find out the importance of conducting on the job training to
employees in Public Sectors. Second to examine the consequences of not having on
the job training to employees working in Tanzania Public organization. Third, to
assess measures to be taken ensure on the job training to employees in Public Sectors
is effective and fourth to find out the impact of on job training on the performance of
employees in Public Sectors.
Research data was collected through interviews and questionnaires. Qualitative data
was subjected into a content analysis and quantitative data was summarized in tables
and charts.
The study revealed that effective on the job training programmes contribute greatly
on employee performance. Effective OJT programmes is a powerful tool because it
increase knowledge, skills and changes the attitudes and hence increases
performance of employees.
The study therefore shows that effective OJT programmes is very crucial to any
organization as it contribute significantly and positive on employee performance. |
