dc.description This study aimed to assess the microfinance and new ventures towards poverty reduction among women. It focuses on NMB PLC Wami branch in Morogoro municipality as a case of study. The following variables were used in order to access the contribution of microfinance to women in poverty reduction. These were income, housing, employment and education. Also the study accessed the barriers in women access to microfinance. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, documentary and observation. Data analysis was done qualitatively. Data analysis was qualitatively done in some cases the qualitative data is quantified in order to produce clear presentation and simple interpretation. With this kind of data descriptive statistics was applied, particularly the use of percentages to describe the variables in order to make the report simple and understandable. The major findings show that there is improvement of income, education and employment also the study gives out the factors hindering the women in accessing the micro finance. The study looks at the initial loan and concluded that it should be more than 1,000,000/= or it should depend on the nature of the business and its performance. Also the study looks at the interest rate (it is 24% per year). The study was able to reveal that NMB PLC does not provide training to women which is more useful to them in business management and business planning. Lastly the study shows that NMB PLC is giving women equal chances compared to men in accessing microfinance.
