Although there are many studies conducted by scholars at different time and places concerning training and its important impacts to either employees or a firm’s performance, they did not specifically focus in assessing the impact of training on employees’ performance in public firms, ZAWA in particular. Therefore this study was aimed at assessing the impact of training on employee’s performance at ZAWA. It focused in examining the relationship between training and organization and individual goals. Also the examination of different steps that undertaken in delivering training. It assessed the magnitude of changes employees have after training and its associated challenges. A sample of 60 respondents was selected out of 110. Data collection techniques including interviews, questionnaires, observation and documentary reviews; sampling techniques were employed.
The study revealed a positive relationship between training and performance. It further showed that training programmes delivered in ZAWA are relevant to individual career paths. Also the training offered is relevant to organization and individual goals. Different techniques are used to diagnose and implement training programmes, for example training needs assessment. It was observed that each group of staff receive training programmes and the received courses lead to significant changes in employees’ knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours. The study also revealed an improvement in service delivery after employees received training. Budget constraints, scarcity of modern materials, a low level of education among some employees and a low level of interest in the organization to invest on training were noted as challenges. |
