ABSTRACT
This study aimed to explore the role of motivation in enhancing employees’ performance in the Immigration department in Tanzania. Specifically, the study seeks to identify thsign was used for taff motivation. Relevant literatures on the relationship between motivation and employees’ performance were reviewed. Case study research de
ployees more committed to their jobs, more comfortable and appreciative hence raise their job performance. Also increases the provision of quality services in the best way for the prosperity of the department. Furthermore it creates good relationship and harmony within the organizations and reduces friction among workers and between workers and the management, hence increased employees’ performance. Lastly, it reduces employees’ absenteeism and labour turnover which results into employees’ retention due to the fact that they are highly satisfied. However, it was realized that in exercising motivation the department experienced several challenges some of these are biasness in motivating the employees, lack of a proper motivation system, lack of motivation policy, lack of management commitment to motivate employees, poor communication and poor promotion system. In order to improve the motivation system in the department, respondents proposed some initiatives to be taken, these include: having a clear motivation policy, having a clear and transparent motivation system, workers participation in planning and management of resources, fair decision making in the organization, good promotion system and avoiding favoritism.
It is recommended that right placement of employees according to their professionalism need to be considered by the Immigration department. By so doing they can maximize expertise effectively
