Enhancing women’s participation in development is essential not only for achieving social
justice but also for reducing poverty. The general objective of the study is to assess the
contribution of women’s participation in economic development activities, taking Mkolani Ward in Nyamagana District, Mwanza as a case study. The study intends to determine the contributions of women’s participation in economic development activities.
A case study design was adopted to get the required information. Probability and non
probability sampling techniques were applied. Interviews, questionnaires and documentary reviews methods were adopted for the purpose of collecting the required data. A researcher has analyzed data manually where by quantitative data was presented in form of figures, percentage and tables while qualitative data was presented in narrative statements.
In this work a researcher used a sample size of 30 respondents distributed into three categories such as CDOs, women in the community and men in the particular community, in which 2 CDOs, 20 women and 8 men made a total of 30 respondents. A researcher decided to select this kind of sample size because, researcher believes that it is enough sample to provide accurate data regarding to a given limited time of the study.
Women involve in different activities for their own benefit and development but resulting to the development of the community and nation as a whole due to the increase of per capital income. Women being involved in different economic activities have resulted to great impact towards community development.
In order to promote women participation in development activities recommendations are
provided that, eradicate cultural believes which segregate women to participate in development activities , give chance of education to girls as boys for future community’s values and to create other policy which will ensure women participation in development activities.
