The study aimed at investigatingthe level of SACCOS members awareness on credit life assurance and the possible cause for their lack of awareness. The study was carried out in Dar es Salaam, in all the three districts Kinondoni, Ilala and Temeke. The study used a sample size of 60 respondents. Both qualitative and quantitative research approaches were used. Data were collected by using documentary review, questionnaires and interviews, deliberate sampling was used to identify and locate SACCOS members in Dar es Salaam while respondents were purposely chosen to meet the research objectives. Quantitative data were analysed by using SPSS and Microsoft Excel Spread Sheet, while qualitative data were analysed using content analysis procedure
The results of the study revealed that lack of current, relevant and appropriate knowledge on credit life assurance has led to unawareness of the benefits of the product could offer to the SACCOS members. The study findings also revealed that the cause for unawareness of credit life assurance has been contributed byunfavourable experience and bureaucracy among the insurance companies, language used on the insurance policies, lack of seminar, workshop and training on credit life assurance. The study it is therefore recommended that insurance companies should reduce the bureaucracy on settlement of claims, insurance policies should use a Swahili language for more understanding, more campaign on awareness such as advertisement, seminar, workshop or training to SACCOS members to raise the awareness. More SACCOS members are used other means to mitigate the credit risk other than credit life assurance which is more efficient than other means.
