This study presents the assessment on the influence of training on employees’ performance in banks particularly at NMB PLC-Dar es Salaam Region. The general objective was to investigate the influence of training on employee’s performance in bank. Specifically the study assessed the benefits of training programmes to employees at NMB PLC, analyzed the relationship between training and the overall employees performance at NMB PLC, determined the major types of training programs conducted at NMB PLC and analyzed the challenges of training employees at NMB PLC.
The sample consisted 52 respondents and case study design, qualitative and quantitative approaches were used. Data collection methods used were interviews, observations and documentary analysis. Data collection instruments used were interview questions, questionnaires, documentary analysis schedule and observation schedule.
The study found that that, training on employees’ performance at NMB PLC is moderate. Benefits of training at NMB PLC are; to improve productivity, to increase morale to employee, to improve image of the bank, reduce dependence of bank on recruit from outside, and reduce cost. Notably, in analyzing the relationship between training and the overall employees’ performance at NMB PLC, most of the employees accept that there is relationship between training and the overall employees’ performance. Also, most of the respondents revealed both on job training and off job training are conducted at NMB PLC. And the challenges which hinder training at NMB PLC are small fund for training, biasness, poor participation of employee in training programs, poor HR skills.
The study concluded that, staff training is very crucial to a bank and influences performance of employees and the bank. Recommendations are: training at NMB PLC should be applied in both short term courses and long term courses and all employees should be treated equally to be trained to improve their performance |
