The main objective of this study was to determine the extent which information communication technologies are applied by the Small Medium Business Enterprises, specifically the study examined the awareness in the adoption, and benefits that are enjoyed by ICTs in Tanzania and finally the study identified different strategies and challenges that helped the adaptation of information and communication technologies to Small Medium Business Enterprises in Tanzania.
The research design used in this was cross sectional design. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling in order to obtain the reliable data. The sample comprised of 30 owners of different Small Medium Business Enterprises around Kariakoo Market, and 50 employees of different business organization, 80 customers selected randomly from within the market area in Dar es Salaam city. Data was analyzed statistically by using Statistical Packages for Social Sciences and the results indicated that all those who use the ICTs are a generally performing better than those not using the facilities and technologies.
The findings also suggest that a failure to recognize ICT’s strategic potential is due to the ignorance of stakeholder’s and poor policy initiatives to support Small Medium Business Enterprises.
It was concluded that ICT is very important therefore need to be adopted by all Small Medium Business Enterprises engaged in various businesses in Dar es Salaam.
In view of the findings and conclusions it was recommended that, ICT be adopted and Small Medium Business Enterprises be encouraged to use and adopt the facilities. |
